It is an exciting and important moment in the history of scholarly communication. The University of California system just cancelled their Elsevier subscription. A multinational group of funders have launched Plan S to accelerate the movement to open access. UNESCO has helped form a global alliance of scholarly communication providers to encourage greater collaboration in this sector. It is in this context and moment that we’re organizing focus groups about the future of scholarly communication infrastructure. Along with our census and survey of library spending on this infrastructructure, we are talking with library leaders in one hour focus groups.
The focus group will explore both what your current practices are in this area, and also your attitudes and plans going forward as to how investing in this infrastructure fits into your overall strategy for your library and your institution. It will be a chance to both contribute to this study, and also to learn from your colleagues.
We plan to host focus groups at following conferences, as well as online.
ELPub, June 2, Marseilles, France (done)
ALA, June 24-25, Washington DC (done)
ARL, Sep 23-25, Washington, DC
CNI, December 9-10, 2019, Washington DC
